Overview: Value Driver

As covered in this Help Article, the Value Driver is where the Optimizer is configured. This Value Driver is a function of process-specific Rewards and Limits defined (and updated) by the User. From a high level, the Value Driver balances financial, operational, environmental, safety, and cultural goals - and is expressed as lower-level criteria linked to process variables.

Setting up the Value Driver

In the latest version of the Flotation App, the Value Driver is set up in two parts.

Setting the Control Limits

The first is setting the limits within which the Optimizer should keep its recommended setpoints (RSPs). This is done in the Optimizer Limits screen (see navigation below).

For each Control Variable, the user can set the Upper bound (max allowed RSP) and Lower bound (min allowed RSP), and click Save to submit it to pass it to the Optimizer to use for its next optimization.

Setting the Rewards

The Optimizer's Rewards are preconfigured as part of the Optimizer Screen (Performance section). Below you can see Rewards for maximising Metal Recovery (%) and pursuing a Minimum Target for Concentrate Grade (g/t).

By clicking on the “Set Strategy” button on the right side, the user can edit the Optimizer Rewards, by for example setting a new target for the concentrate grade.

Reviewing the Rewards

The Flotation App outputs the live Reward Contributions as metrics that can be trended in a Dashboard.

For a particular circuit's Optimizer, these trended metrics provide visual feedback of which Rewards most contributed to the Optimizer's selection of the best operating point and recommended setpoints. If the Metallurgist is unhappy with this behaviour, they can then return to the Optimizer Screen and adjust the Optimizer.
